Let’s make him feel the legend that he really is!
Take me back, take me way, way back…” it’s the beginning of one of George’s favourite Van Morrison songs. And we would like to invite you to take us back to your favourite time with George, the impact he had on you and your life.
From the time when he had that warehouse on the Dock Road for the new bands, recording in U2 studio to gigs in the roughest of places, from developing the Yellow House and the theatre of exposure, through astonishing multimedia performances to the annual Van Gogh’s Birthdays, from amazing international youth exchanges, though the house where we worked and lived to innovative films and public art, from the radio shows through being audience warmer upper to being the answer on 15 to 1 show, from those trips to away games through establishing the Dark House Blues to “It’s great to be an Evertonian” play, from working in prison for criminally in sane, to school work with the “scallies” and so many more stories, jokes and just George’s moments of pure genius.
As you may be aware, over the last 5 years George has been challenged by cancer twice, heart problems and sepsis 4 times! After winning so many fights over the last 5 years his body got to the point of exhaustion. After the last chemotherapy treatment his immune system is so weak, he can’t fight any more but he tried, didn’t he? We were shocked to hear he may have just few more days so we want to make that time as pleasant as possible and reading how positively he impacted the life of many people would be so touching and heartwarming.
It would be great to make him feel like the Legend that he really is!
We would like to have it all just in one place so we ask you to write it here in the space below. Please don’t contact him directly as it would be too overwhelming and block communication we people he has to be in touch. Let him choose when he reads them. He may not the able to respond individually but he will read them all.
We realise that people don’t know what to say so few guides: please don’t say “I hope you get better” when we know he may have just few more days, please don’t ask “how is he” as it’s exhausting and hurting answering such questions, please don’t request to meet him as we need to protect him from any infections to not shorten the time he has before he “flows into the mystic”.
We hope you join in sharing your favourite story of George and you are most welcome to write more than one. Please click on the link below to write your story and together we can create The Legacy of George McKane!
